In my experience and in the capacity of a trainer, I have come across lot many participants seeking clarity on what stream they should opt for after ITIL Foundation. I ask them their profile and then go on to explain the following

There are two streams offered – one the Service Life Cycle (SLC) and the other is the Capability.

The Service Life Cycle (SLC) stream are for those who deliver customer facing services. They should be very familiar with the Service Level Management (SLM), Utility & Warranty aspects in delivering ‘value’ to the customers. Understand not just the output but the outcome that the customers would achieve.

The Capability stream are for those who are into design, document, build, implement and improve Processes that are effective and efficient and aligned to business. Normally Process Owners would opt to get certified in this stream.

AXELOS-the owner of ITIL best practice framework, however best recommends that participants have the awareness to both the streams with more focus to the stream that suits their profile.
